Re: Davis Cup 2024- India
Coach changes don't change clay court players. Sumit has limitations that will stay. He can try to work on the serve a bit more. I have no idea who the current coach is and how good he is and who the prospective coach will be. Of course, a good coach can help him improve his game but he will always ...

Re: Indian Economy
Hasina ordered the killing of the protestors. 440 people died. The police should not be militarized to attack protestors. She wanted to call the army to kill more. Over 700 cases were documented of political opponents disappearing in her rule. One party grabbing full power is dictatorship and is com...

Re: Indian Economy
Regarding our arms exports, i agree we didn’t export much because other countries were able to supply better quality arms at a lesser price. But that happened because we thought private enterprise shouldn’t get into arms industry because that’s blood money after all and shouldn’t be “for profit”. I...

Re: Indian Economy
@ Prasen I agree with you that an individual can serve self interest by working hard, but there are not many external factors that apply to individuals as they do for foreign policy. Huh? That is completely not true. However much you work hard, if you are born in an Amazonian tribe say, you will mo...

Observationally, have people found the UTR to be a better predictor (higher % correct predictions taking only the ranking into account, i.e., least "upsets") than the ATP/WTA ranks? Tx.

Re: Indian Economy
Well, can't find one after the 16th century that happened over women. Yep, guilty of recency bias. And, it is sad that women were thought of as property, etc. Not property but suitor for the most desirable. From times eternal until now. I do not know of any wars in the last 100 years or so because ...

Re: Indian Economy
Foreign policy can't be serving our own interests and at the same time be on moral high grounds. Yes, it can be. Just like we serve our own interests by trying to work hard etc. but not steal from our neighbors. I think we are in the situation that we are in (having to accept Hasina as permanent gu...

Re: India in Australia 2024-25
Sorry, you guys are probably right. For batters, from whom I derived the rule and did not check for bowlers, it is about -10. But, 10/50 is about 20%. So, when someone averages 20, they will perhaps have a -4 or -5. And, when someone who averages 10 will have a -2. So, a % measure is perhaps better....

Neeraj Chopra, India's first athletics gold medalist
I actually checked twice before starting this thread. Nobody has started a thread on this phenomenal pioneer. You may think that the volume of discussion may be not so high as to make another thread. But, I am swayed by the historic nature of Mr. Chopra's achievements. If we don't really want a thre...

Re: ITF W15/W35s & M15/M25s Nakhon Si Thammarat, THA (Aug-Sep 2024)
Just explaining the moderator actions... Mod, Jay Unfortunately, with rules, unless you have clearly written rules and them enforced, we will have a bit of a chaos. If we want to live with that - and I do not object to that - that is fine. The cleaner way is to have a thread where we discuss this a...

Re: Indian Economy
The greater the proportion of Muslims in the country, the greater the likelihood and degree of an extreme Islamist government.I object to the blanket use of the term "dictator" to refer to Hasina. She was democratically elected 15 years ago, and won 3 more elections with varying degrees o...
