Re: ATP/ITF/WTA tournament calendar updates

WB had a good tennis culture. Maybe now, it has a table tennis culture. Cheaper sport. Easier on the body I suppose.

Actually the sport is doing fine despite these bungling idiots. And, that is why they do not care perhaps.

Re: WTA 125 "L&T Mumbai Open", Mumbai, Feb 2025

Because things are so costly in Switzerland, Jil's parents could not afford too many letters for the first name, given that the last name was so many letters anyway. So, her name is Jil and not Jill. Quite the opposite of the cheap vowels available in India these days. Hehe :-) BTW, when she starte...

Re: Padel: Mix of Tennis & Sqaush - Now in India

Now, there is the World Padel League coming to Mumbai Matthias Boe, the badminton legend, says that apart from Denmark, padel is growing in India. Maybe people who know more about the situation can comment.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...

Her is an article on Swastika Ghosh I had read. I was reminded of her when gunsnroses posted the news that she is playing the Chinese in the feeder tournament semi-final. She is young, plays an attacking style, trying to generate power from the legs a la the Chinese. She aims to break into the top-5...

Re: Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty thread

So the question really is whether Sania was a outlier or do we have many people who get into the top-50 for a season or two when they are in form and when they have had one or two high point tournaments and then fall out. A substantial chunk of the top-50 are people who have hit form and many player...

Re: Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi thread

What is remarkable is how absolutely poised she is and no nonsense in her answers. No hint of being a youngster. She says she will consider some ITFs now. There should be good people at the Nadal Academy who should be able to advise her well. And, her parents, of course. But, she has a good head on ...

Re: Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty thread

Yes, which is why I put top-50. Top-100 is good - I mean we all are world number nothings - but not "world-class" in my mind. And, yes, Shrivalli could make top-100. I will put a large sum of money on top-50 but being conservative somewhat wrt betting, I would not put that much on a top-10...

Re: WTA 125 "L&T Mumbai Open", Mumbai, Feb 2025

In this regard, Maaya shows the fight. She does not believe she will lose. I think this self-belief should be preserved if the coaches can in any way when she runs into bad form, plays against better opposition, etc. She has also readjusted and refocused and pulled out the third sets. In this match,...

I am hoping the same with you. Will be very happy. But, I don't think it will happen. Let us see.

Re: WTA 125 "L&T Mumbai Open", Mumbai, Feb 2025

Yes, yes. I am not expecting anything more. I am just saying that I hope she and her coaches try to see what is happening in the second sets and if anything can be changed. If not, not. Even the best players do not always win in straight sets in all matches. Human variation. Luck. Etc. Remember I us...

Re: WTA 125 "L&T Mumbai Open", Mumbai, Feb 2025

She plays Jil Teichman!

Well, one does not play to make the semis. Can she really win two more tough matches? I would think not, but maybe I am seeing a slight sliver ... Potentially, she will need to beat the #117 Teichman and #103 Marino ...

Re: WTA 125 "L&T Mumbai Open", Mumbai, Feb 2025

Leading 5-1 in the third set. Close it out Maaya! Done and dusted. 6-2 in the third set. I just hope that she does not play so many three setters where she is losing the second set. That puts a toll on her body. She is young and fit and will recover quickly. But, still. Hope the coach is finding out...

Re: Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty thread

Eric, I know you are a very optimistic person. I will be very happy to eat my words in 1 year. But, I would be very happy to eat my words even in 5 years. The key will be if she can get a top-50 ranking worldwide, win a WTA tournament in singles, and/or get us an Asiad Gold, etc. Maaya has that pote...
