Re: ITF W15s Mysuru/Bengaluru, India (Oct 2024)
Shrivalli is a rising star for sure! Yes. And a tad overranked? Or is Aney underranked? I know she is 26 and was 370 and 390 types ranked in the last two years and has had a bad year so far. Shrivalli is close to being our #1? Shows how barren our cupboard is at this point. Hope she improves a lot ...

Re: General Cricket Thread ...
A function of sports culture, extreme resource/wealth concentration so that they can afford to train with the best infrastructure in a small set of schools/colleges for the white without worrying about jobs, etc., and perhaps genes. If you are counting expat Zimbabweans, then how many remain in Zimb...

Yes, but, we will see. Since his first successful series in Australia, his technical deficiencies have been well known and exploited. Let's see if he can continue his success there. I hope he can. We really need almost everybody firing because the Aussies are always very good at home.

Re: Indian Table Tennis Thread ...
It seems that our players are somewhat under-ranked. Any idea why that is the case? Have they not played as much? Is the ranking formula not as good? Have we suddenly improved? Why? How? Or has it been a steady progression and the rankings will correct themselves?

Re: Bangladesh in India 2024 [ 2 Test, 3 T20Is ]
Fair enough. Won't argue too much. But, Gaekwad scores at 143.53 but gives you 39.56 runs/innings (over 16 outs). Samson scores at 144.52 but gives you only 22.84 runs/innings (over 26 dismissals). Parag scores at 151.42 but gives you 17.66 runs/innings (3 outs). So, yes, we can go with Parag for Ga...

Re: Bangladesh in India 2024 [ 2 Test, 3 T20Is ]
Sanju Samson shows he can hit and earns himself another series. The problem with him is consistency as it is with Jitesh, who can also hit. Sanju though is more consistent than Jitesh but he has also gotten a lot more chances. After this series, we have the following (if there was a WC tomorrow): Es...

Petr Bar Biryukov is 22 and we have discussed him a few times this year at least. Mikhail Sergeyevich Biryukov died by suicide at the age of 29 in 2019. His mother was a four time world champion in pentathlon. He won a silver in doubles in the Youth Olympics Games. Biryukov is a common Russian name....

Re: India in Australia 2024-25
Rohit is going to miss the first test in Perth. Who is our backup opener? Rahul and Gill have been failures at the opening spot. But, do we still push one of them up the order and play Sarfaraz? Anyway, who is the team looking to if say an opener is injured? Easwaran? Or has his time gone? The rumor...

Great to see Nitish do well with both the bat and the ball. Hardik was not bowled, which was the right decision. He should not be played. We need to use all the batting and bowling resources to get experience to our next gen. My XI would be: Yashasvi, Gaikwad, Abhishek, SkAY, Nitish, Rinku, Wk, Hard...

For some reason, I do not see these images and tweet links. Anyone else having the same problem? Is it related to turning tracking off? HWB, if possible, and you can copy the images or tweets where allowed that would be great. Or put in the link to the images. I know you do a lot of good posting her...

Also, I do not use it as an individual predictor. If we have say 10 junior world champions, the odds are perhaps reasonable that we will get 1-2 medal winners. If we have 20 junior champs, I think we can expect to see 3-4 senior medals. I have not done the numbers to give you exact ratios. In this s...

Re: Indian Shooting thread
I was talking about Indians. Age fudging creates huge doubts about juniors’ successes in countries where it’s relatively easy to misrepresent age. And, Paes wasn’t really a singles success I had in mind. But, will take it. Other examples? I was thinking badminton may have been our best feeder but I...

Re: Indian Shooting thread
Easy. Leander Paes. :-) Federer won Wimbledon Junior. Tons more examples. The point is a junior winner has a higher probability of getting a senior medal. But, lots of junior winners win nothing. However, for people who have not won much in juniors, the probability of getting a senior medal is lower...
