Re: World Cup 2019

Looking at the English WC squad, it is amazing to see so many of them average over 40 and SR over 100. You need the average because you can't score 350 with people who average 30. Bairstow 48/107, Buttler 42/120, Morgan 40/93, Root 50/87, Roy 41/106, Stokes 38/94, Hales 37/96. We have only Kedar Jad...

Re: General Cricket Thread ...

Precisely. I have seen teams get to 0 wickets in 30 overs. Okay, now, I think it is basically a T-20 without powerplay overs. But, no, they keep playing as if it is not. 15 overs left and 8 wickets in hand. Again, a T-20 situation, you should be able to add 120 odd runs. No. In the modern game, you ...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

srini, I do not know whether you follow the advanced stats in baseball. There is statcast, which measures what amount of spin the ball has, what angle each shot was and what speed it left the bat, etc. There are "fielding independent pitching" stats that tries to take into account the number of ball...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Rahul Chahar got 13 wickets in 13 matches at 23.69/wicket, 6.55 rpo. Mishra got 11 wickets in 11 matches at 24.54/wicket, 6.75 rpo. So, was Chahar better than Mishra, yes. Slightly. But, their records are pretty similar is what I was saying. Also, clearly Bhajji and Jadeja had great seasons. I was o...

Re: World Cup 2019

In LOIs, strike rate matters. Also, the WCs are run by the ICC and not exactly by the host board. So, the pitches are not doctored in favor of the bowlers. Actually, they are doctored against the bowlers. Thus, you need people with high SRs. Rahane was given a long rope. He failed. His form in tests...

If Rahul did so, then so did Mishra.

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Age? This is why I liked Federer's decision to play the French this year. It is more open than previous years and Fed knew that it would be. Still, I think the young guns or Djokovic/Nadal can beat Federer as Thiem did but hey, you take your chance. If the draw opens up and upsets happen, etc. he ma...

Re: World Cup 2019

More consistently than whom? They are subpar except Hardik in comparison to the big hitters in the English team, say. Our best bet is Hardik. Then, a cut below is Kedar provided he gets his old form back and not this play a few balls, get set, and then hit mentality he showed in the IPL. Shankar can...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

One game left. Dhoni said that the bowlers had CSK win this season. That is perhaps very true. The leaders (qual:11 wickets, avg < 25, full list): Khalil 15.1/8.2, Gopal 17.3/7.2, Bhajji 17.8/7.1, Chahal 21.4/7.8, Jadeja 22/6.4, Bumrah 23.2/6.8, D. Chahar 24/7.5, Mishra 24.5/6.8, R. Chahar 24.5/6.8,...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Which is why KKR should have abandoned one of the crappy bowlers and taken one more batsman and tried to score 20 runs more than par every match. Anyway, crappy team. Gill did okay when asked to open. This is a la Rohit. A lot of players will do okay if given the chance to open and build an innings....

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Yes. He has. 2001 I think. I believe he was 19 when he won his first major. Which is why he is just after Federer in the number of GSs won. As has Djokovic.

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Another way to look at it is that Bjorg did not have the mental fortitude to have a long, full career. We often ignore the mental aspect of sport. Bjorg for all his physical gifts failed mentally (or did not care about having a full career). So we celebrate those who have the tenacity to have a long...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

So the regular season ends. Batting (qual: runs, by average): Dhoni 123/140, Rahul 54/135, Pandya 47/197, Pandey 45/138, Dhawan 37/137, Pant 36/158, Rana 34/146, Samson 34/149. Now ordering by SR. Pandya was fabulous. Pant was very good. Samson and Rana decent. Dhoni, Dhawan, Pandey, Rahul reasonabl...
