Re: $25K Indonesia F3 Futures AUG 2018

Confidence and support from friends and loved ones is everything to a tennis player. We have all been through lots of ups and downs, and life on the tour can get very lonely. You have to appreciate guys like Niki who have to slog through qualies all the way to win a title, with little or no support ...

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

It will be disastrous if he doesn't show up at USO. No funding from Govt as well as no prize money either. He has been shown the way. How to appear and retire in round one. Is Yuki planning to retire from tennis? Maybe he is on the way to finally calling it quits - make an announcement after US Ope...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Prof - Then you would have the entire contingent taking a break as all/most of them are eligible to play in the US open. Not sure if that is viable. Not necessarily. Many will choose the Asiad over the open for a chance to earn a medal. Look, you can slice and dice this in so many ways, but punishi...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Hard to believe that the TOPS committee would penalise Yuki for choosing to play in the US Open over tha Asian Games. Is this how you reward good performance? Actually there is some justification. Especially if playing for the country (when selected) was a requirement for the TOPS program. I assume...

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread

Someone on mtf made a comment that Ram could do very well on indoor, what do the resident experts think? Indoor does favor the good serve/volley player, but even more important is the need to seriously improve on the returns. I played a lot of indoor tournaments during my playing days after i came ...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Looks like Yuki has knee injury which has been bothering him since Roland Garros. Looks like he plans to be back at Cincinnnati- Missing the US Open is unimaginable for me: Bhambri Hard to believe that the TOPS committee would penalise Yuki for choosing to play in the US Open over tha Asian Games. ...

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

A good win by Prajnesh ... He is having a tough match against Atlanta Open semi-finalist Britisher Cameron Norrie. At $715K Los Cabos Open 2018, Mexico [R1] (Q) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,177) vs Cameron Norrie (GBR,74) This is a stunningly beautiful tourist destination with lots of hot babes around...

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

This is just awful. Yuki has basically never had a full year on tour without injury. Ramkumar, on the other hand, has been remarkably injury-free despite playing a really punishing schedule. This could turn out positive for Yuki if he is spending his free time on conditioning and lots of prep for t...

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

Atlanta R1 - Taylor Fritz def Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-4, 6-4. Considering he won only 9/49 points on the return RR did well to keep it close. One break in each set. Verifies what I said earlier - if he is winning only 9/49 returns, then that is the Achilles heel and he is not penetrating and holding ...

Re: Ramkumar Ramanathan thread

A nice article on Ram by "The Hindu" , the only publication in India which knows and understands Indian Tennis and Tennis in general. https://www.thehindu.com/sport/tennis/sport/article24496638.ece The Hindu has a long tradition of tennis writing - Nirmal Shekar was a particular standout particular...

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

Is one of the reasons why Indians have a good record in Newport is that they mess up their prep for grass and therefore peak in time for Newport rather than playing more in the early few weeks and peaking for Wimbledon qualies and the slam? I have always felt that the uneven bounce at Newport (exac...

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

I hope Lee has stayed back to support Ram through this final. I like the support chain - Ramesh mentored Lee throughout the DC matches starting with the tie in Frejus and several years thereafter. Now Lee is giving back and maintaining the chain by mentoring Ram, which hopefully will continue well a...

A nice article on Ram on the ATP website.

Nice article. Leander's mentoring will go a long way - really good to see this happening. Curious to see the simplification that Lee is talking about.

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018

Excellent run by RamK to become the second Indian ATP Semi finalist since Somdev in 2011 Johannesburg ATP. I think he has a good chance of at least making the final here. Has he not secured a special exempt spot in Atp Atlanta. If yes then its like icing on the cake. :-) There are 2 players ranked ...

Re: Wimbledon 2018

Guido Pella, who narrowly beat Prajnesh at Stuttgart, after PG had beaten Shapovalov in the first round, has just beaten Marin Cilic, last year's finalist and one of the favourites to challenge Federer this year (after winning at Queen's, where he beat Djoker in the final -- having lost the final t...
