Re: $54(+H) Pune Challenger, November 11-18,2019

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Hit the felt off the ball in practice and make the shots and the serve more accurate. You cant hit the net or go over the line as often as he does, when his shot selection is so good. Some of the running retrieval shots and service returns he hits are gems. H...

Re: $54(+H) Pune Challenger, November 11-18,2019

watching Mukund play I guess for the first time ; the guy has the tools to have a decent tennis career provided he gets a right coach who can work on consistently inconsistent shot making ... Yeah, Mukund is no fluke player, and he is not going away anywhere anytime soon. He has got some strong wea...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

The locals with the flag or the ambassador didn't come on their own. It was Vatsal/Vishnu's brilliant efforts - of not just being passionate fans of Indian tennis but trying on their part to help the Indian tennis players. And it's not just in this event. They've been doing their share of help in m...

Re: Rohan Bopanna thread...

Gautam, Great reporting! Maybe a new line of work? I was hoping that you would be there this Monday - the first time that I am able to get there. Will check out Nanda, who you reported on. Yes, Rohan is very casual and open. Nice going. Thank you. I wasn’t there for the Labor Day weekend but I am h...

Re: Rohan Bopanna thread...

What do you think? What do others think? Thanks for the kind words. I had a great time meeting and talking to our players and also having access to the player zones. My highlight however was getting tapped on the shoulder by Sharapova who wanted me to move out of her way. I was blocking the path in...

Re: Rohan Bopanna thread...

Interview with Bopanna after his MxD match. He is super nice and very easy to talk to. I wasn’t sure if he was going to agree to the interview but I put in a request through the media desk and he accepted!! This is the last one for me. Had a great time doing these but it’s time to get back to work :...

Re: Junior Circuits Abroad for Indian Kids...

I didn’t want to put this in the main US Open thread but here’s an interview with Mann Shah’s coach Jignesh Rawal, at the Open today. Mann is the lone Indian in the juniors but lost in the qualifying round after a tough 3 setter. https://indiantennisdaily.com/2019/09/01/interview-with-jignesh-rawal-...

Also she had her team with her. Coach (appeared to be Narendranath).
Really? I thought Hemant Bendrey will be with her.
I just confirmed with the physio and it was indeed Narendranath. I couldn’t recognize him until much later when Vishnu pointed it out.

Re: US Open 2019

It’s definitely a meaningful win and she fought very hard. Her opponent was a powerful lefty who was trying to avoid long rallies. It was over 95 degrees and super humid. Her energy level was up through the entire set. She’s a fighter for sure. But to reach top 100 and stay there (if that’s their go...

Re: US Open 2019

Gautam, Thanks for the set of eyes. RamK needs to hit the reset button, take some time off, and shore up his ground strokes. I have never been able to discern some strength to base a victory on. The serve can be strong, but not reliable. The chipping and charging seems to be the residue of a lack o...

Re: US Open 2019

RamK’s game has regressed. He didn’t hit one good ground stroke on his backhand throughout the match. His biggest problem is his shot selection. It was so disappointing to watch him play today. He started well but took his foot off the pedal and got into his chip/slice/drop game mode. His opponent w...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Yeah that’s because they never had that physical base to begin with. ... That’s not their fault. Gautam hit the nail on the head. He has seen his son and I have seen my daughter train. I am sure Jay has seen his son train too. The culture here is to make the kids aware of building a good "physical ...
