Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Yeah that’s because they never had that physical base to begin with. ... That’s not their fault. Gautam hit the nail on the head. He has seen his son and I have seen my daughter train. I am sure Jay has seen his son train too. The culture here is to make the kids aware of building a good "physical ...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

I too agree that the next generation of kids would be better! There’s definitely more awareness in kids but I wish we train more coaches. Btw, a good interview of Sumit's coach by Vatsal https://indiantennisdaily.com/2019/07/20/none-of-us-are-doing-this-to-be-just-top-200-atp-sascha-nensel-on-his-as...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Yeah that’s because they never had that physical base to begin with. How many of our juniors really focused on physical training when they were in their formative years? Zero! That’s not their fault. There’s just no awareness of what it takes to succeed at the highest levels. By the time they realiz...

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Yes, from what I heard, Somdev was the one who recommended Milos to Sumit. He’s definitely in good hands. I also don’t think we should read too much into the semifinals losses. He is getting better each day and it’s just a matter of time.

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Completely agree with arjun. Yuki is not going to forget his tennis :). He needs to be prepared physically. There’s no point in playing if he is going to get injured again. I am glad that someone is finally giving him sound advice!

Re: US Claycourt Challengers, April 2019

Jay that’s a beautiful facility. My son (and a few other 2006 born kids from his age groups) was invited to train there for a few times this year. Here’s a short video that they send parents ahead of the trip (kids travel alone and parent aren’t allowed there for some of the camps). You can see the ...

Re: $25K ITF Men and Women-Andijan/Namangan-Uzbekistan-22 Apr to 5th May 2019

Based on feedback from Koon, Prajnesh’s father, and the Uberois (all based on recent conversations), most of our players don’t have the strength or physicality to succeed for long periods of time on the tour. Prajnesh’s father was been open in his interview (with Vishnu - a must read if you haven’t...

Re: US Claycourt Challengers, April 2019

Thanks for that list, Atithee. I’ve played on those courts in Armonk, NY (one from your list) but there’s only a couple of red clay (har tru) courts there. There’s a club in our neighborhood that recently installed European red clay courts and it plays so different. http://www.newjerseyregion.usta.c...

Re: US Claycourt Challengers, April 2019

The USTA clay court nationals are actually held on these green clay courts. Hmm - I don't think so, at least not if we're talking about the tournament here in Houston, which is red clay... What tournament is that, Prashant? There may be a few handful of local/sectional tournaments on red clay. I al...

Re: US Claycourt Challengers, April 2019

The surface was ridiculously slow and made for really poor tennis imo There’s hardly any red clay courts in America. Most of the clay courts here are har-tru green clay courts. The red clay is a lot softer and plays so much slower than these green clay courts. The USTA clay court nationals are actu...

Re: ITF Team Juniors (u16 Davis/Fed Cup, u14 World Jun. Tennis)

This question merits a deeper investigative report - status of junior development activities at the state level (state-by-state) in terms of participation, progression, funding for tennis development programs, availability of coaches, role of associations, funding issues, recruitment/promotion effo...

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread

I don’t think either of them lacked resources (like a few of our other talented players). Getting more support is always good. Both Yuki and Prajnesh suffered a lot of injuries. I just feel that Prajnesh’s took control and worked with the right people to strengthen his body. Yuki on the other hand d...

Re: Prajnesh Gunneswaran thread

A pretty in-depth interview with Prajnesh’s dad from a few days ago. Thanks to Vishnu for reaching out to him. He seems like a very pragmatic person and I love his responses. It’s long but hoping some our juniors and their parents can benefit from it. This is also posted on the Bridge. https://india...
