Rutuja wins 6-4 4-6 6-4. What a dream week in singles for us! :bounce:

At least one Indian assured in the finals!

Re: Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha thread

^^^ Correct. He did not tell me that he’s a doubles specialist. It’s my own assessment based on his game, playing activity, age, and aspirations which can be deduced from observing certain factors. Someone who’s 28yo and has never reached the top-500 in the singles chart, and doesn’t travel week in,...

Re: Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha thread

Niki is a doubles specialist, so I’m actually surprised that he’s playing this tougher US M15 ITF series despite having the ranking to enter CH doubles draws. He also skipped the doubles event this week. :-~

I think Sahaja breaks into the top-400 for the first time with that win.

Facing a similar ranked Russian instead of the slated 2nd seeded opponent at the QF stage is a blessing. Hope she takes advantage of it now.

Re: Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha thread

Not every loss involving an Indian has to do with injury, so no this was not an injury-related loss. I watched the match and Niki was simply outplayed by the once second-ranked player (when he was 16yo) in the USA, Hanzlik. https://www.statepress.com/article/2022/04/asu-mens-tennis-cash-hanzlik-usta...

Re: ITF Men-Women Thailand 2023

Sameer, you missed the 3rd Indian in the men’s draw. Nitin plays a Thai player in R2.

[Added that match above. Mod, Jay]

Re: European Challengers 2023

Ramkumar and veteran Zimonjic are putting a good fight against the 3rd seeds Brown/Sandkaulen at the Troisdorf CH. They lost the first set 6-4 and won the second set tiebreaker. Match TB to come.

They lost 9-11 in the MTB. :damn:

Re: Roland Garros 2023

So far, only one alt team has made it to the main draw of doubles. That leaves BalaJee as the #3rd team to enter after Cornea/Zhang (who’s still alive in the singles draw), O’Connell/Thompson (both out in singles). 17 R1 doubles matches yet to be played. Can we get 3 more teams to withdraw, please? ...

Re: Roland Garros 2023

By the way, the mixed doubles draw is out and this is the first time I have not seen Bopanna’s name in the draw. No Indian interest there at this year’s RG.

Re: Karman Kaur Thandi

Hesse is a mom now but that hasn’t stopped her from producing quality wins against the likes of Stefanini (#105), Paquet (#181), Robbe (#190) since her return after maternity break. I wouldn’t treat this as an easy match.

^^^ I was just about to post that, too. Was excited seeing Sahaja pulled that surprise one. IIRC Kulikova beat Raina in India last year. Good win (albeit serving 7 DFs!).
