Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Weightlifting dip is okay, I feel. None of these are actual Olympic medal performance barring Chanu (I'm sure many Chinese/Korean/Indonesians are catching up in the background there as well). Jeremy and Achinta have a loooong way to go. Realistic 2028 at best. Dipika and (her sister's husband) Saura...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Discounting archery and shooting, we have a better medal and gold medal tally compared to 2010 Delhi CWG as well Have to remove tennis too from 2010 medal tally. Removing those 3, it would be 20 golds and 59 medals in 2010. 20 golds and 57 medals this time. Very close but big considering we had hug...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Sagar clearly ran out of gas in R2 and R3. Got a blow to his eye and didn't seem very concentrated after that. Since we have lost many more evenly contested bouts, this doesn't feel bad at all. XD

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

First singles CWG final for Sharath Kamal since the 2006 gold in Melbourne. So he will go home with 4 medals. He says that he has been keeping his physical fitness as utmost priority and that shows as he was able to win 6 games in a day many times. Petition to award him with a Khel Ratna. If Manika ...

Re: Hockey at Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, July 28- August 8, 2022

Janekke, very accomplished multi-Olympic and World Cup medalist herself, was part of the Tokyo team as analytical coach for India. So probably didn't take too long for her to take the head coach role and was already gelled well with players. That's why she got the Celebratory Body Tossing from her g...

Re: Hockey at Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, July 28- August 8, 2022

Full marks to Savita for leading the team in the absence of Rani Rampal. Janekke also radiates positivity as a coach and the team looks like a strong bunch. Navneet Kaur has been the standout player with her skills. World class.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Team India change racket mid rally. https://www.birmingham2022.com/video/2712956/0802_bdmxteam_moment_ind_racket_changemxf ^^^ Whoa, look at that! I didn't know that it was even allowed!! Does this happen much in badminton? I assume it must be extremely rare? Not that uncommon, TBH. Especially in d...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Oh yes, we do have 3 participants in triple jump, and there's apparently an outside chance of gold. Then there's men's racewalk as well, the guys will have to take inspiration from Priyanka. Although the South Asian body stature isn't probably the best for aquatic racing, I wonder why we don't have ...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Men's hockey, Women's cricket are 2 other finals already set. In badminton, we still have all India MS final in cards (Srikanth will be up against the Malaysian "alternate" who beat him in the mixed team final and also be Woeld Champion Loh Kean Yew in QF today; Lakshya Sen should have it easy). In ...

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

So 3 bronze in boxing and each of our pugilist who lost was in a split decision. Nitu, Amit, Nikhat, Sagar through to finals. All favourites but .... y'all know what's going to happen. So 2 golds should be realistic expectation.

Re: Commonwealth Games, 2022

Yeah, time to kick Manika the malcontent out of the team. Should have done that after Tokyo. She's still the best ranked singles, doubles and mixed doubles player from India. Kick out? Definitely not. Agreed, she's having a horrible outing here after 4 medals in her previous CWG. Sreeja has played ...

Re: Hockey at Commonwealth Games, Birmingham, July 28- August 8, 2022

We were 0-1 down but made an equaliser in the Q4. Penalty shootout was absolute cheating. We saved the first one but the ref said that "clock did not start" so they were given another chance. LOL, Wtf? That was going to be a huge psychological burden. And it did as Aus scored 3-0 in PS.
